- At the bottom of this article, I have prepared a special list. Of 54 free traffic sources. That you can tap into. To build yourself a massive email list.
- There is no shortage of traffic. Anytime you need more traffic to build your email list, just pull out this little checklist.
- However, with great power comes great responsibility.
- If I give you this checklist without telling you how exactly you should use it, the power will be so great that it will consume you like a forest fire eating up a small city. Not to mention giving you information and decision overload.
- So before we get into that, here are 10 “must-have” keys you need to grasp in order to tap into and start using these powerful sources of list building traffic:
#10. For The Love Of All Things List Building
- Driving traffic to build your list is not a one time thing. It’s something that you’ll be doing again and again, for some time to come. Especially when you’re just starting out.
- Therefore, it’s a good idea to start with a traffic source that centers around doing something that you really enjoy.
- For example, if you love writing, you may want to consider starting with article marketing, blogging, guest posting, or other similar forms of traffic that utilize the art of writing.
- If you’re a graphic artist, and you love creating new graphics, start with infographic marketing, or maybe even Pinterest marketing.
- If you enjoy analyzing data and finding patterns, perhaps you need to try getting into PPC traffic.
- Start by centering your traffic strategy on a traffic source that lets you do what you love doing. This is the best way to gain momentum that carries forward.
#9. You’re Better Than I Thought
- It’s not enough to do just what you love. You also want to do something that you’re naturally good at.
- Everyone has their set of natural talents, strengths and weaknesses. One person might be better than writing than the other. Another person might be better at talking in front of a camera.
- Start with a traffic source that lets you do what you’re good at. In addition to doing what you like.
- I see so many people struggle with a traffic source of days and months and years. Trying again and again to make it work. Each time failing miserably. Only because they don’t have a natural talent in that area.
- On the other hand, I see other people utilizing the same traffic source. And they only have to use it for a while, before they grasp it at a high level. And their income and email list starts to take off.
- Finding out and discovering your strengths and weaknesses, and building a list building or traffic generation strategy around that can make a world of difference.
#8. Hang Out With The Homies
- You also want to make sure that, in addition to the criteria above, you’re using a traffic source that allows you to tap into your target audience.
- For example, let’s say you’re good at making videos. You have a brilliant smile. You love speaking in front of the camera. And your talk is just addictive to listen to.
- However, let’s say you’re in a niche where people don’t like watching videos. And there’s not really much to take a video about anyway.
- Sad to say it’s a bad match.
- Either you find an innovative new way to leverage video in your niche that will get people watching, or you’ll need to switch options.
#7. Steal Ideas From The Outside
- Once you’ve found an appropriate traffic source that caters to what you enjoy, what you’re good at, and that your target audience enjoys too, then it’s time to start bringing it to another level.
- It’s easy to learn from, and imitate, what other businesses using that traffic source are doing.
- However, when it comes to marketing, if you’re not different, you’re invisible…
- Instead of just copying how other people in your niche are doing marketing using that particular traffic source, look at how people outside your niche are using it.
- You’ll be able to gain a ton of ideas that will totally differentiate you from the crowd.
- Because no one in your niche is doing it. But you know it’s effective based on how people in other industries are using that particular traffic source.
#6. Learn From Those Who Are Killing It
- You also want to learn from people who are absolutely killing it with that particular traffic source.
- If you want to learn something, it make sense to learn from the best.
- For example, if you’re using social media like Facebook or Twitter, then see what the top Facebook and Twitter users in the world are doing.
- Follow the people with the most followers. See how they engage them. See how they post, what they post about, take their ideas and run with them.
#5. Mix, Match And More
- Instead of just taking advantage of one, single traffic source, find a way to mix and match multiple traffic sources.
- This works especially well if you’ve found that you have several traffic sources that cater to what you like to do, what you’re good at, and where your target audience hangs out.
- Find ways to integrate these traffic sources, so that they cross-promote one another.
- This will lead to synergistic, exponential growth. The concept is that one and one can equal more than two when you put them together in the right way.
#4. Mastering A Few At A Time
- There’s this myth that if you want to gain mastery quickly in something, you should focus on doing one thing at a time.
- However, learning experts have found that this is largely a very deceptive illusion. If you focus on learning one thing at a time, you will feel as if you’re learning it faster than if you were juggling between multiple things at once. Because it’s easier.
- BUT… in-depth research over the last several years has shown that, the harder it is to do something, the more quickly the learning will be solidified.
- Therefore, if you want to learn a traffic source quickly, don’t just focus on that traffic source exclusively.
- Choose maybe 3 or 4 traffic sources. And randomly switch between them.
- Yes, it will feel harder. And it will seem tougher. But you will be learning them much more quickly, as the skills get built up into your long-term memory.
#3. Discard The Underperforming
- If you find a traffic source that isn’t building your list as well, or as quickly, as some of the others you’re testing out, you must ruthlessly discard it quickly.
- You do not have infinite time or resources. If it doesn’t work, you need to stop doing it.
- And the only way to know what works or what doesn’t is by tracking and measuring.
- Make sure you have all your tracking systems in place. I talk about this a lot in our Million Subscriber Case Study.
#2. Double Down On The Performing
- Whatever works, you should double down on it. Do more of it. Put all your effort and resources into scaling it.
- A lot of people say that they know this, but the fact of the matter is that it’s quite hard to find people who actually do it.
- It’s not what you know. It’s what you do. That makes the difference.
- If you find something that’s working for you like gangbusters, do more of it.
- Don’t count it off as luck, and then go and find a new, shiny, sexy traffic source that sounds and looks cool. And that everyone is talking about.
- If it works, keep doing more and more of it no matter how boring it is.
- Of course, if you took my advice and started with a traffic source that lets you do what you enjoy and are good at, you shouldn’t have the problem of boredom.
#1. Create Leverage With Contests
- Once you’ve found a traffic source that meets all the criteria above, and that’s building your email list like gangbusters… you can leverage contests to get other people to do it for you.
- Yes, you can always pay some outsourcers or employees to do it, but why would you when you can get people to do it for you for free?
- Create a contest that centers around the free traffic source you selected. And get people to market on that source for you, the way you’ve found to be most effective, in exchange for the chance to win a prize.
- For example, let’s say that you’re absolutely killing it by marketing with videos on YouTube. And using that to build a monster list.
- Create a contest for your list subscribers. A fun contest. Not a boring one of course.
- They can enter the contest by creating a video, talking about maybe 5 biggest lessons they’ve learned from you, related to your niche. And they have to post it on YouTube, following criteria that you specify (link to your site).
- And then you give away prizes, perhaps some of your digital, high-value products, at the end to the winner. Maybe the person with the video you think is the best.
- Once you’ve found the best free list building traffic source, and the best way to use it, use contests or competitions to get other people to drive the traffic for you.
- And finally…
